Maulana Rafiqul Islam Madani, 26, has been charged under the Digital Security Act for making provocative anti-state remarks on social media. The case was filed at Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Gachha Police Station. After the case, RAB raided and arrested Rafiqul Islam Madani and handed him over to Gachha police.
Imran Khan, Senior Assistant Director (ASP) of the Legal and Media Wing of the RAB, confirmed the matter to the media on Thursday (April 8) morning.
He said a case has been filed against Rafiqul Islam at GMP’s Gachha police station under the Digital Security Act. At the end of the case, he was handed over to the police.
Ahsanul Haque, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC), Gachha Zone, GMP Southern Division, said, “RAB filed the case as a plaintiff under the Digital Security Act. It is alleged in the case that he made obscene remarks about important people in the state.
Last Tuesday night, RAB-14 broke the door of his house in Letirkanda village of Ghagra union in Purbadhala of Netrokona and arrested him.
Recently, Rafiqul Islam said in one of his speeches, ‘President Mani, if he means Islam. The Prime Minister agrees, if he means Islam. If the Prime Minister does not accept this, he will go against Islam. ‘There were reactions inside and outside the government when many more provocative statements were made on various social media, including YouTube. He was then arrested.
Earlier on March 25, Motijheel police arrested the ‘child speaker’ from a protest rally against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Shapla Chattar in the capital. However, he was released a few hours later.
