Protesters have clashed with Israeli forces in Jerusalem. Israeli forces fired tear gas and bullets at protesters as they pelted them with stones. The clashes came hours after a ceasefire between the Israeli and Palestinian armed forces of Hamas.

On Thursday (May 20), Israel and Palestine agreed to a ceasefire proposal and signed a ceasefire agreement. The ceasefire took effect on Friday (May 21) morning.

Al Jazeera reports that tensions have risen in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem despite the ceasefire. There, Israeli police raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. Israeli police fired tear gas at Palestinians after Friday prayers. During this time, protesters took stones at the police targeting the police.

Clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem have led to 11 days of counter-attacks by Israel and Hamas, which controls Gaza. Israel has been carrying out airstrikes on Palestinian installations in the occupied valley since May 10, claiming to have fired rockets at Israel from Gaza.

232 Palestinians were killed in the war. Of these, 64 are children and 38 are women. Meanwhile, 13 Israelis, including women and children, were killed in Hamas attacks.

Large areas of Gaza have been reduced to rubble by Israeli airstrikes. 1 lakh 20 thousand people have become homeless. The Israeli military claims that Hamas and other Islamist armed groups fired more than 4,300 rockets into Gaza. These rocket attacks have been repelled through the Iron Dome.
