Hefazat-e-Islam joint secretary general Maulana Mamunul Haque has been arrested. He was arrested on Sunday (April 18th) at around 12:30 pm from Jamia Rahmania Madrasa in the capital’s Mohammadpur. He taught in that madrasa.
Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Harun-ur-Rashid confirmed the arrest.
He said that after the arrest of Mamunul Haque, the joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam, he was taken to the office of the deputy commissioner of the Tejgaon division. He has been arrested in the case of Mohammadpur police station. Other cases will be decided later.
DB Joint Commissioner Mahbub Alam said Mamunul was arrested in a joint operation by multiple teams of detective police.
Law enforcement says Mamunul started dreaming of coming to power. That is why he was provoking one violence after another.
Mamunul Haque has not been seen in public since the Sonargaon resort incident in Narayanganj. Hefazat leaders held an emergency meeting at the madrasa on April 3, the day after the resort incident. Mamunul Haque was present there. After that, he was not seen in any organizational activities.
After the Sonargaon resort scandal, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sharply criticized Mamunul Haque in Parliament. Since then, the administration has been in turmoil. Hefazat leaders and activists continued to be arrested.
