Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has said that public transport will resume in some parts of Bangladesh from Wednesday (April 7).
The minister made the remarks at a briefing from his residence on Tuesday (April 6) afternoon.
He said the government has reconsidered and approved the issue of public transport subject to conditions, taking into account the issue of suffering in public transport, working in various institutions, including public and private, in the lockdown situation.
At that time, Obaidul Quader said public transport will run on Dhaka, Chittagong metropolis, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Comilla, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Barisal, Rangpur, and Mymensingh City Corporation areas from 6 am to 6 pm with half the seats vacant.
He said that at the beginning and end of every trip, the car should be disinfected with disinfectant and transport-related, and passengers should wear mandatory masks, use hand sanitizer.
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader also made it clear that no additional rent can be collected in any way. He also said that long-distance public transport will remain closed till further notice.
The decision will take effect from Wednesday, April 7, and will remain in force until further notice, the Awami League general secretary said.
