A housewife named China Khatun (45) went missing while bathing in the river Jamuna in Bogra’s Dhunot. The incident took place in the Pukuria Ghat area of the Vandarbari union of the Upazila on Friday (March 19) afternoon.
Missing China Khatun is the wife of Azimuddin of Madhabdanga village in the union.
On Saturday (March 20) morning, members of a diving team from Rajshahi rushed to the Pukuria Ghat area of the Jamuna River but were unable to rescue him.
According to local sources, Azimuddin of Mazbari village in Kazipur lost his house in the erosion of the Jamuna river about 20 years ago and took refuge with his family in the Madhabdanga flood control dam in Dhunot. On Friday afternoon, Azimuddin’s wife China Khatun went to bathe in the Pukuria Ghat area of the Jamuna River. But China Khatun inadvertently disappeared in the strong current of water. The locals immediately searched for him by boat but could not rescue him.
Dhunot Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kripa Sindhu Bala said the leaders of the Rajshahi diving team were conducting rescue operations. But no trace of him was found. It is thought that his body could be swept away by the strong current in the river.
