Disabled Rupali Khatun (25). Her husband divorced her. So she lived in a shack in her father’s house with a baby boy. Suddenly he is very happy to get a house.
Rupali Khatun is the daughter of Rafiqul Islam of Pakurihata village in Dhunat Upazila of Bogra. He does not have one leg. So her husband’s house and family did not survive. So he took shelter in the house of his poor father.
Now he owns a house. Rupali Khatun, a disabled person, was overjoyed to receive the lock and key of her dream house as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
However, not only Rupali Khatun but also 55 landless families including helpless widow Mili Khatun (70) and widow Ameja Khatun (65) got the gift house of the Prime Minister.
Dhunat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sanjay Kumar Mahanta handed over 55 houses built on government land in Malopara village of Dhunat Sadar Union to the landless through lottery on Thursday afternoon (May 13).
Meanwhile, before Eid, the landless get busy cleaning and getting new houses. Each house has two bedrooms, a kitchen, a latrine, and a veranda. Every house has an electrical system. Besides, landless people are also getting home ownership documents.
Ameja Khatun, a widow from Belkuchi village, said she was living in a small shack in another place after her husband’s death. I never imagined I would be able to sleep in a house.
Dhunat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sanjay Kumar Mahanta said 101 houses in 10 unions of the Upazila have been handed over to the landless as a gift from the Prime Minister for the first time. The construction of 120 more houses has been completed for the second time.
Although not officially inaugurated, 55 houses have already been handed over to landowners. After the inauguration of the Prime Minister, all the houses will be officially inaugurated at the same time.
